Your Neighborhood Music School

Four generations on the same street in Montrose.

Grayson's Tune Town has been on Honolulu Avenue since 1953. Four generations of our family have run it, and in that time we have taught a great many Crescenta Valley families. Our ten lesson studios sit in the middle of the Montrose Shopping Park, about five minutes from Crescenta Valley High School and roughly the same from Rosemont Middle.

Being close by will not make anyone practice, but it does make the weekly trip easy to keep. A lot of La Crescenta parents drop off, walk down Honolulu for a coffee or an errand, and are back before the half hour is up. Montrose is safe and genuinely walkable, which is rarer than it should be, and it turns the lesson into part of the afternoon rather than one more thing to drive to.

We teach guitar, bass, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, piano, voice, drums, violin, brass and woodwinds. Around twenty instructors across ten studios, seven days a week.

Why Crescenta Valley Families Choose Grayson's

Six reasons families here have stayed with us for decades.

๐Ÿฆ

Since 1953

Four generations of the same family, in the same neighborhood, on the same street. We now teach the children of students we taught years ago.

A Store Worth Walking Into

Students come in through a room full of guitars, amps and instruments on their way to the studios. It is hard to overstate what that does for a young musician compared with a plain rented room.

๐Ÿ“…

A Flexible Program

Thirty, forty five or sixty minute lessons, seven days a week. Weekday afternoons through evenings, weekends all day, and online lessons when you need them.

๐Ÿ“

We're Close To You

About five minutes from Crescenta Valley High and Rosemont Middle, and under ten from anywhere in La Crescenta. No freeway, no cross-town trip.

๐ŸŽ“

Accredited Instructors

Our teachers hold degrees from prestigious university music programs. You can read every instructor's background and training before you book a single lesson.

๐ŸŽค

Working Musicians

Most of our instructors still perform, record and gig around Los Angeles. Students learn from people actively doing the thing they are being taught to do.

Questions from La Crescenta Families

The things parents ask us most often.

About five minutes from Crescenta Valley High and Rosemont Middle, and under ten from anywhere in La Crescenta. We are at 2415 Honolulu Ave in Montrose, in the middle of the shopping park.
It depends far more on the child than the birthday. Piano and violin often work from around six. Guitar and drums usually want a little more size and hand strength. Call us and describe your child. We have had this conversation a few thousand times and we will tell you honestly if we think it is early.
Two ways. You can take our teacher match quiz, which asks about instrument, age, goals and schedule, or you can simply call and describe what you are after. Our staff know every instructor on the roster and will point you at the right one.
Yes, and more than people expect. Complete beginners in their fifties, players returning after thirty years away, and parents who decided to learn alongside their child.
Pianos and drum kits are provided in the studios. For everything else students bring their own, and we rent and sell instruments here, so you can start without committing to a purchase before you know it will stick.
Of course. Stop in during store hours, look at the rooms, and ask us anything. Most families find it easier to decide once they have stood in the space.
