Along with performing, Dave has a bachelor’s degree in music and is an alumni of the Los Angeles Jazz Workshop. Dave studied the Henry Lindeman Method from Los Angeles Woodwind Studio Professional, Phil Sobel for thirteen years. Dave performs all styles of music on the saxophone family, clarinet family, piccolo, flute, alto flute, oboe, english horn, and the wind synthesizer, Akai Electronic Woodwind Instrument (EWI for short). Dave has spent years learning music theory as well as familiarizing himself with the most up to date music technology for recording and synthesis.
In the Music Accessory Manufacturing arena, Dave was hired by Rico International to give feedback on reed playability for all brands of reeds the company makes. For over seven years, Dave was instrumental in improving reed quality and consistency. During this time Dave was able to determine the best way to adjust reeds to a players exact needs and playing style, which has helped many of his students to avoid typical reed problems that seem to be so prevalent. Lessons with Dave are given with care and in a relaxed manner. Dave’s philosophy after nearly fifteen years of teaching experience is that all people can play music very well given they have the desire to learn, and that observation/experimentation is a far more permanent path to musical mastery than a pre-existing natural aptitude or “talent”. All lessons are extremely personalized to facilitate the most rapid improvement & enjoyment for each student.
